SLPUM Administrative Assistants Build Stronger Bonds at Two-Day Retreat

Oct 13, 2026 | News

Administrative assistants from the Southern Luzon Philippine Union Mission (SLPUM) and its local mission fields gathered on October 6–7, 2026, for a two-day retreat aimed at fostering unity, strengthening relationships, and providing a welcome break from their daily responsibilities.

The gathering was organized by the Administrative Assistants Network (AAN), the association of administrative assistants across the union territory. AAN seeks to promote professional growth, strengthen camaraderie and commitment to the Church’s mission, and support the overall development and well-being of its members.

The program included practical lectures on Fashion Dos and Don’ts, stress management, and Maintaining Spiritual Vitality in High-Pressure Administrative Roles. These sessions offered helpful insights on managing the demands of administrative work while caring for their personal and spiritual well-being.

Participants also took part in adventure-based team-building activities, including rappelling, zip lining, human tank, submarine, human maze, and unity tower. Beyond the fun and excitement, the activities challenged them to communicate, trust one another, work as a team, and step outside their comfort zones.

Another highlight was an evening filled with laughter, creativity, and fellowship. During Talentadong AAs, each mission field showcased the talents of its administrative assistants. The Pageant of Experience added to the excitement, with one representative from each mission field demonstrating her personality, creativity, communication skills, and ability to handle office-related situations and challenges. The pageant culminated in the crowning of Ms. AAN.

For Angelie Ricarte from Palawan, the retreat brought a comforting realization that the challenges she faces as an administrative assistant are also experienced by others.

“Sometimes, the simple realization that someone understands makes the burden easier to carry,” she reflected. “That day reminded me that sometimes, God restores us through the presence of people who make us feel safe enough to simply belong,” she shared.

Krizzia Portugal from Bicol region appreciated the opportunity to unwind and connect with colleagues in a different setting. She particularly enjoyed the adventure activities and appreciated having facilitators lead the team-building challenges, allowing everyone to participate and enjoy the experience together.

For Rosalind Bucad from Laguna, one of the most unforgettable moments was during Talentadong AAs, where she witnessed colleagues encouraging and supporting one another, regardless of their positions.

“I saw laughter turn into tears. I saw leaders become followers, and followers become leaders. There was no position, no title—just sisters and brothers in Christ, encouraging each other and saying, ‘Kaya natin ito,'” she recalled. “Our work is not just typing, filing, and scheduling. It is about teamwork, humility, and trust. We cannot do our ministry alone. We need each other,” she emphasized.

Administrative assistants play an important role in the daily operations of the Church. Much of their work happens behind the scenes, but their dedication helps keep offices organized, communication flowing, and various ministries and programs moving forward.

The two-day gathering was more than an opportunity to rest and have fun. It gave participants time to learn, build friendships, encourage one another, and appreciate the people with whom they share the responsibilities of ministry.

More than an opportunity to rest and recharge, the retreat reminded participants that although they serve in different offices and mission fields, they are not alone. They have one another, and together, they serve one mission.
